Trauma, Resilience, Containment and Healing

 Professional training with CE credits
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 26, 2018 in Lancaster, Pa.
New brain research continues to show that traditional talk psychotherapy has significant limitations in working with trauma. These discoveries not only demonstrate the brain-body-spirit connection with trauma treatment but also why talk therapy has such difficulty in resolving trauma triggers.
The future points to the growing value of experiential work to increase a felt sense of safety and to shift consciousness from trauma-based roles to roles of post-traumatic growth.

We will give special attention to the Therapeutic Spiral Model, a psychodrama-based model developed by Kate Hudgins and its central intervention, the Containing Double, as well as other ways of working with trauma that experiential psychotherapists have integrated into their practices in recent years.

In this experiential training workshop, instructed by Karen Carnabucci, LCSW, TEP, we will explore how to identify trauma roles had support our clients to take healthy strength-based roles with a variety of experiential techniques.

Additional emphasis will focus on the emerging healing process of Family Constellations, which is beginning to make inroads in addiction treatment in the United States, although it is highly popular around the world.

In this training workshop, you will learn:
  • Facts about the trauma and how it affects the trauma survivor’s present-day experience.
  • How to develop safety in treatment settings, with special emphasis on safety in experiential therapy and group therapy.
  • The value of containment and grounding and how to support containment with props and images with the use of a specialized psychodramatic double.
  • How to help your clients identify their strengths.
  • How to use strengths to develop safety in group and individual settings.
  • How to concretize three categories of strengths.
  • How to use props to affirm strengths for trauma survivors.

Presentation methods will include lecture, experiential activities and demonstration, group discussion and handouts. There will be ample time for questions, discussion and case consultation, as well as the option to address personal issues in a confidential atmosphere.
The fee for this training workshop is $85 if registered by Oct. 20 and $105 after. The tuition includes the training day; six CE credits for social workers, marriage and family therapists and licensed professional counselors; psychodrama credit hours toward psychodrama certification; handouts; and healthy snacks.

This training day is suitable for:

Mental health professionals, marriage and family therapists, creative arts therapists, addiction counselors, physicians and other medical professionals, personal and wellness coaches, educators, clergy, community and social activists, alternative health practitioners and others interested in experiential methods.
